Brazil, 1843, 30r deep Black, early Impression, unused with original gum (a very light horizontal bend is mentioned for accuracy only), large margins all around, gorgeous deep shade, crisp and fresh thick paper. Signed by the expert Roger Calves (Paris).

EXTREMELY FINE. A LOVELY VERY RARE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE BRAZIL 30-REIS BULL´S EYE. Scott catalogue mentions "Nr. 1-3 were issued with gum, but very few unused examples retain even a trace of their original gum. Copies with original gum command substancial premiums".

Priced in Meyer catalogue at Euros 5,400 for a stamp without gum "selos novos de 1843 a 1890, com goma original, marecem um acréscimo considerável". A premium of 100 % for a stamp with original gum seems logical, which makes a catalogue value of EUR 10.800.
